What To Expect

1. Plaza de Santa Ana Plaza de Santa Ana is an open space in the Cortes neighborhood, in the Centro district of Madrid. It dates back to 1810 and throughout its history it has undergone numerous urbanization processes that have modified its appearance with varying degrees of success.
2. Royal Palace of Madrid The Royal Palace of Madrid, also called the Royal Palace of the East, is the official residence of the King of Spain; However, the current kings do not live in it, but in the Palacio de la Zarzuela, which is why it is used for state ceremonies and solemn acts.
3. Museo de la Catedral de la Almudena The Almudena Cathedral is the most important religious building in Madrid. On June 15, 1993, it was consecrated by Pope John Paul II, becoming the first cathedral to be consecrated outside of Rome. The Almudena Cathedral Museum gathers dozens of objects that narrate the history of the diocese of Madrid. In the twelve rooms that the museum has, you will see everything from mosaics to episcopal coats of arms and ornament.
4. Jardines de Sabatini The Sabatini Gardens are located in front of the north façade of the Royal Palace of Madrid, between Calle de Bailén and Cuesta de San Vicente. They occupy an area of 2.66 hectares.
5. Templo de Debod The Temple of Debod is a building from ancient Egypt currently located in the Spanish city of Madrid. It is located to the west of the Plaza de España, next to the Paseo del Pintor Rosales, on a hill where the Cuartel de la Montaña was located. 5 minutes
6. Mercado San Miguel Covered market from around 1916 with local food, delicatessen and events in an elegant setting.
7. Real Basilica de San Francisco el Grande The Royal Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, officially Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, is a Catholic church in Madrid, in the Palacio neighborhood, within the historic center of the Spanish capital.
8. Casa de Cervantes In the Barrio de las Letras de Madrid in the heart of Madrid, it is with the house where Cervantes died.
9. Casa Museo Lope de Vega The Lope de Vega House-Museum is located at number 11 Cervantes street in the Spanish city of Madrid.
10. Plaza de las Cortes The Palace of the Spanish Courts, was built on the site of the old convent of the Holy Spirit that was used as the seat of the Congress between 1834 and 1841. On the main façade, a staircase ascends to the neoclassical portico, with six imposing corinthian fluted columns, on which stands the triangular pediment decorated with reliefs by Ponciano Ponzano. The emblematic lions that flank the entrance are the work of the same sculptor and were cast with iron from cannons captured during the war in Africa. Beneath the pediment, the carved bronze door opens only on very special occasions. Among the rooms of the building, with a symmetrical floor plan, the well-known Sessions room stands out, but also the library or the Conference room, better known as the room of "the lost steps".
11. Fuente de Neptuno Both gods occupy prominent positions within the Greek mythological hierarchy and rival in the sports field, since the fans of Atlético de Madrid celebrate their victories in the square of the god of the sea, while that of Real Madrid does so in that of Cibeles. As part of the original Ventura Rodríguez project, both sources were initially confronted, looking at each other on the side of Paseo del Prado. Both Cibeles and Neptune experienced restructuring and transfer processes at the end of the 19th century, finally occupying the center of the Cibeles and Cánovas del Castillo squares, respectively.
12. Museo Nacional del Prado Singularly rich in paintings by European masters from the 16th to the 19th centuries, according to art historian and hispanist Jonathan Brown "few would dare to doubt that it is the most important museum in the world in European painting." Its main attraction lies in the wide presence of Velázquez, El Greco, Goya (the most widely represented artist in the museum), Tiziano, Rubens and El Bosco, of which he has the best and most extensive collections that exist worldwide, a what should be added outstanding sets of authors as important as Murillo, Ribera, Zurbarán, Fra Angelico, Rafael, Veronese, Tintoretto, Patinir, Antonio Moro, Van Dyck or Poussin, to name just a few of the most relevant.
13. Los Jeronimos The old monastery of San Jerónimo el Real, popularly known as "Los Jerónimos", was one of the most important monasteries in Madrid, originally ruled by the Order of San Jerónimo. Next to it there was the so-called Royal Room, later expanded as the Buen Retiro Palace in the times of Felipe IV.
14. Puerta de Alcala The Puerta de Alcalá is one of the five old royal gates that gave access to the city of Madrid, it is located in the center of the roundabout in the Plaza de la Independencia.
15. Cibeles Fountain Surrounded by the buildings of the Palacio de Buenavista (Army Headquarters), Palacio de Linares (Casa de América), Palacio de Comunicaciones (formerly the Post Office headquarters and currently the City Council of Madrid) and Banco de España. The fountain represents the Roman goddess Cibeles, symbol of the land, agriculture and fertility, on a car pulled by two lions, the mythological characters Hipomenes and Atalanta. The goddess and the lions were carved in marble and the rest in stone. The sculpture of the goddess is the work of Francisco Gutiérrez. The two lions have been sculpted by the Frenchman Roberto Michel. The goddess is an icon for the followers of the Real Madrid football team, since the Madrid team titles are celebrated, as well as the successes of the Spanish soccer team.
16. Banco de Espana All a decorative waste, awarded at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1884. The building was built with the aim of providing the National Bank with a seat more in line with the importance of its functions, such as the single issuance of coins and bills for everything Spanish territory The interior of the building can only be visited by groups of educational centers and universities. Exceptionally, also by non-profit cultural and associative entities.

Excellent

Published on Aug, 2024

We had such a good time on this tour! Our guide Gustavo was really friendly and super knowledgeable, he gave us lots of information about the sights on the tour but also gave us lots of personal recommendations along the way of places to visit and restaurants to try. We received WhatsApp in advance asking if we needed car seats, we have two young children so this was very much appreciated! I was a little worried about the heat as Madrid in August is scorching, but it was absolutely fine. Highly recommend!

One of the best way to visit Madrid in comfort. Guide showed us what mattered most. Told us where to come back after. Stopped when it was a must and was extremely knowledgeable. Her English was so good I thought she was from England. Accent and all

Great first day in Madrid

We were Jet lagged from our plane ride from New York. But Manuel helped us gather our bearings and showed us so many key things in Madrid. We had time to stop off at certain places- and he was a perfect tour guide. We highly recommend.

Informative, fun, good pace and Enrique has a great sense of humour. He shared the history in a fun & informative way.
